Child 44 (2015)
Starring Tom Hardy and Gary Oldman, Child 44 is a film adaptation of Tom Rob Smith’s 2008 novel. Like the book, the film follows the story of a rogue Soviet military agent who uncovers a startling connection between Stalin’s government and the murders of several children.
In April 2015, Child 44 was banned in Russia by the Russian Ministry of Culture and film distributor Central Partnership for painting the former Soviet-era leader in a negative light. In their announcement, the Russian ministry stated that the film presented distorted historical facts and inaccurate interpretations of events, making it an inappropriate proposition for local audiences.
