Christopher Robin (2018)
In August 2018, censors in China denied the screening of Christopher Robin due to the country’s ongoing war against Winnie the Pooh. The lovable cartoon character had been the main protagonist in several popular memes that were used to criticize the country’s leader Xi Jinping and has since become a symbol of resistance against his Communist Party.
On social media, Chinese authorities had been hard at work to censor images after a flurry of photos likening Pooh to Xi surfaced online. Along with A Wrinkle in Time, Christopher Robin was the second Disney film to be axed by China in 2018.
