Brokeback Mountain (2005)
Featuring the somewhat controversial storyline (at the time) of two gay cowboys played by actors Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal, Brokeback Mountain is a Western classic. The pair falls in love while herding sheep in Wyoming, and audiences are constantly kept on the edge as the two embark on a lengthy, yet troubled relationship.
Despite winning three Oscar Awards, the film’s plot proved to be too controversial in America’s Utah, China, Malaysia, the Bahamas, and the Middle East. Lebanon was the only Middle Eastern country to screen the film, albeit a heavily censored version of it.
