Brief Encounter (1945)
Although the 1945 motion picture might seem pretty innocent now, Brief Encounter was initially banned in Ireland for promoting adultery. The Irish censor found some scenes in the film too seductive and inappropriate, banning it out of fear that it might prove to be too shocking for the country’s cinema-goers.
The film follows a chance encounter between a housewife and a doctor at a train station. Told in flashbacks, the film recounts the blossoming of a relationship between two people who find it impossible to keep up the façade, given that they are both already married to other people.
