Azawakh – Affectionate, Aloof Guardians
The Azawakh is a breed named after their origin, the Azawakh Valley in Africa’s Sahara desert. Their breeding has been traced back to the nomadic Tuareg tribes. Azawakhs are large hound dogs that respond to motion and therefore chase people, animals, and things if not contained or well-trained. This also makes them fantastic companions for those who keep active outdoors, like runners or hikers.
The independent nature of Azawakhs gives them a great deal of character while bringing a balanced sense of affection to its family. They’re okay around other dogs and kids but will need training and socializing if living in a group environment. Expect an average of between $2,000 and $2,500 each.
