Finding a Hole
Luckily, there are plenty of super holes for Lotte Geeven to choose from. One of the most famous is the brilliantly-named Kola Superdeep Borehole, a 40,230-foot hole sitting near the border between Russia and Norway. Along with a 40,318-foot deep oil rig in Qatar and another Russian hole, the Kola Superdeep Borehole is the deepest artificial point on Earth.
But to achieve her goal and produce a visionary work of art, Geeven was forced to settle for a “smaller” hole. She found the ideal one in the hills of the Bavarian town of Windischeschenbach. This hole was “just” 30,000-foot deep, but it was still perfect for Geeven’s art project.
