Colombia
For a long time, Colombia was seen as everything that was wrong with football in South America. A once-promising football nation suffered a massive setback when one of its players from the 1994 Tournament, Andrés Escobar, was shot and killed at the age of 27 in 1994.
This was apparently in retaliation to him scoring his own goal, which contributed to Colombia’s elimination from the tournament. But the country bounced back, and players like Radamel Falcao and James Rodriguez lit up the tournament in 2014. They also reminded the world of their beautiful women, with many following the team to the tournament every four years.
