Argo (2012)
After raising concerns over the film’s representation of the 1979 hostage crisis in Tehran, Ben Affleck’s 2012 drama Argo was banned in Iran. Going on to win three Academy Awards and two Golden Globes, the film is the depiction of real-life events in Iran during the late ’70s.
After the 1979 Iranian revolution, the film depicts the real-life events in Iran as an angry mob of protestors was able to capture 52 U.S. citizens, of which six escaped. With Hollywood’s help, the United States then went on a daring mission to rescue their countrymen, right from under the noses of the Ayatollah.
