Introducing Lotte Geeven
To a real visionary artist, like the Amsterdam-based Lotte Geeven, holes can indeed be used for aesthetical purposes. In her biography, Geeven describes herself as a creator who’s interested in exploring “intangible abstracts such as the sky or the earth.” And her work makes for a fascinating study of the relation between humans and nature.
In 2015, she produced ‘Walter,’ a machine that translates the states of the sea into human language. One year later, she made ‘The Forest Community,’ an artificial ball made of hundreds of plant extracts meant to wholly encapsulate nature’s complexity into a simple object.
