A Recording of a Recording?
When you record something, there’s always going to be some noise involved. Even the most noise-free professional recording studios in the world aren’t capable of producing perfect recordings, even though many pieces of equipment (such as equalizers and de-essing compressors) are specifically designed to deal with unwanted sound artifacts.
With this in mind, there’s a chance that Geeven’s mysterious recording was actually less about Earth’s deepest surfaces and more about the geophone and ultrasonic sensor used for the recording itself. But whether Geeven’s art project was a recording of a recording or the actual “sound photography” of Earth’s deepest realms, does it really matter?
