Mermaid Tales and Chlorine Fails
Disneyland in the 1960s had everything, including real-life mermaids! Back when the park was making waves, these women were part of the submarine voyage in Tomorrowland, adding a splash of underwater magic to the experience. Though they made it fun, swimming around like they were in some version of Atlantica, there was a problem—chlorine!
Too much exposure to those harsh chemicals had these mermaids waving goodbye to their tails by 1967. The lagoon life wasn’t as glamorous as it seemed, and those tails couldn’t withstand the wear and tear. Sure, it was a short-lived gig, but for a while, they turned Disneyland into a mermaid haven.
