Charles Dickens
Charles Dickens, a celebrated English novelist, is famed for his writings about the issues of child labor, poverty, and slavery that he had witnessed while growing up. Drawing from his own experiences of economic instability, he created semi-autobiographical works featuring characters inspired by people he had met and remembered vividly due to his exceptional memory.
Although Dickens was recognized for his political commentary on England’s state of affairs, his novels were beloved by readers, editors, and publishers alike. His works, including “A Christmas Carol” and “Oliver Twist,” continue to be widely read and adapted in various forms today, and his legacy lives on through the term “Dickensian.”
