How They Maintain Order Through the Old Ways
The Amish society follows a set of rules known as the Ordnung, a body of strict guidelines serving as the basis for how the Amish live. The name stems from a German word meaning order, discipline, organization, or system. And as it implies, the goal of the Ordnung is to maintain all these.
The Ordnung sets the rules that govern how Amish people dress, the forbidding and allowance of technology, and how they are educated. It’s not set in stone, though, and as previously mentioned, the Ordnung has been known to be changed after deliberation by society heads.
