They Pay Their Dues
The Amish may live a simple life devoid of technology and other fancy items, but they still pay taxes, including federal and state taxes. One tax they have managed to dodge, though, is social security. They negate it since they take care of their elders themselves.
This only applies to self-employed Amish folks and simply means that they don’t collect social security. They don’t solicit unemployment or welfare benefits either. However, if an Amish works for a non-Amish company, they would still have to pay social security out of principle.
