The Crown Fears The British Tabloids
Hearing what Prince Harry said about his family’s complicated relationship with the British media, those NDAs are totally understandable. As the Duke of Sussex told Oprah Winfrey, the Crown is somewhat frightened by the tabloids’ power and appeases them by giving reporters access in exchange for positive press coverage.
Prince Harry went as far as to describe the transaction as an “invisible contract.” In the long run, he believes this kind of relationship with the media creates a “trapping environment.” These observations have also been echoed by people like radio presenter James O’Brien, who said that the papers could be “kingmakers.”
