The Race To The South Pole
Roald Amundsen was an explorer of note. Not only was he the first person whose expedition reached the South Pole, but he was also the first to fly over the North Pole in an airship!
When Roald set out for the South Pole, none of his crew except his brother knew what mission he was planning to undertake. Bur between Roald’s polar exploration experience and good weather, the group of adventurers reached their target on December 14th, 1911. He beat out American expeditionary Robert Scott, who attempted the same undertaking by more than a month!
