There Was Room For More Lifeboats
The Titanic had room for 64 lifeboats, but only 20 were carried. The reason? Apparently, they wanted to give first-class passengers more space to walk around the ship’s deck. While we believe that exercise is essential even while traveling, ensuring everybody’s safety should have been a higher priority.
Due to the lack of lifeboats, the tradition of saving women and children first was put into action. This led to delays in evacuation efforts as these groups needed to be singled out first among the crowd. It also resulted in some boats being sent out only half full.
