Crucial Life Savers
Seeing the Titanic’s lifeboats before they had to be used is quite eerie. Not long after this photo was snapped, they would spell the difference between life and death for the thousands of people aboard the ship. Even more heartbreaking is that these vessels could’ve saved more.
The 20 lifeboats, which actually exceeded the amount required, could’ve carried 1,178 people. However, this didn’t happen as they were underloaded with passengers during the evacuation due to fears that they wouldn’t be able to take the weight when used at full capacity.
