Ukraine
Called ‘Zbroini syly Ukrainy,’ or ZSU in their native country, the armed forces of Ukraine directly report to the President. As of 2022, they had 197K active personnel apart from 40k who were deployed. Connecting Russia to the rest of Eastern Europe, they do need to have arrangements in place at all times.
The ZSU particularly has a responsibility owing to a unique partnership with NATO that has them maintain peace in the Balkan region. While all Soviet nations were required to undergo conscription before, the rule was abolished for almost a year in 2013 before it was reinstated once more for all men between ages 20 and 27.
