Ellen Hoog, 36 – Bloemendaal, Netherlands
An analysis of female field hockey would be incomplete without mentioning Ellen Hoog’s name. So when she’s described as one of the best Dutch hockey players of her generation, you should know it says a lot about her skills on the field.
Hoog began playing field hockey as a seven-year-old girl, and by 16, she’d polished her skills enough to be selected for her first senior game. Hoog made her debut for the Netherlands women’s national team in 2004. However, by 2017, when she retired, she’d received several accolades for her individual and team plays.
