Senegal
At the 2002 World Cup, Senegal shocked the football fraternity when they beat the reigning world champions France by a goal to nil in the opening match. They continued to astound, eventually being eliminated by a last-minute goal against Turkey in the quarter-finals. They are also renowned for their colorful fans.
This is Simona Guatieri, the girlfriend of Senegalese player Keita Baldé, who represented his country at the 2018 tournament. More than a pretty face, she was also one of the fans who, like the Japanese, helped clean the stadium after their matches. Senegal entered the 2022 World Cup as Africa’s highest-ranked team there, which they also did in 2018.
