Tony Allen – Aortic Aneurysm
Nigerian-born Tony Oladipo Allen is credited as one of the pioneers of the Afrobeat genre of music. He served as a drummer and musical director for Africa ’70, the legendary Nigerian musician Fela Kuti’s band. Allen immigrated to London in 1984 before settling in Paris, France. He also recorded music with French artist Sébastien Tellier and later released the album Secret Agent under World Circuit.
Most recently, he teamed up with Gorillaz and Skepta for the 2020 track How Far. Allen passed away in April from an aortic aneurysm. Musical marvels from across the globe made tributes to him, including Damon Albarn, Nigel Godrich, and Sean Lennon.
