Bernard Hill, 78
There is nothing more poetic than the line a captain must go down with his ship. Bernard Hill made it look as dramatic as it sounded when he portrayed the scene while playing Captain Edward Smith in the film Titanic. He also played Yosser Hughes in Boys from the Blackstuff.
He also played King Théoden in The Lord of the Rings and, before then, as a San Quentin Prison Warden in True Crime. He got his big break a few years before this in 1996 with a role in The Ghost and the Darkness with Val Kilmer and Micheal Douglas. He was last seen in a series called Reunited Apart.
