Ravi Shankar To Spread Light
Ravi Shankar brought sitar and classical Indian music to the United States. He was the world’s best-known exponent of North Indian classical music in the 20th century and inspired musicians in India to explore the world. Being the international superstar that he is, his performance at Woodstock was received with much praise and warmth.
Shankar set on stage with Maya Kulkarni and Alla Rakha to assist with the tamboura and tabla, respectively. Their set lasted for 42 minutes, and it was one of the acts that were not bothered by the rain at all. With his influence, he was awarded the 1999 Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian honor.
