Lucy Hayes & Rutherford Richard Hayes – 1852
Lucy Webb Hayes was the wife of Rutherford B. Hayes, the 19th President of the United States. Their heyday was back in the 1800s, with Rutherford’s time in the White House being from 1877 to 1881. Lucy was not only the first First Lady with a college degree but also the first to promote equality and equal rights.
That tells us that Lucy was beautiful both inside and out. She was also a simple woman. As you can see, she went for very dark yet simple clothing for her wedding day. December 30, 1852, was the beginning of a lifelong marriage that produced eight children.
